What is wind power?
Just as solar power utilizes the power of the sun to generate electricity, tall wind turbines use the power of Earth’s wind for the same result. Wind mills are relatively popular on wind farms.

Pros:
-
Wind power is a clean fuel source, it does not pollute the air.
-
Building wind turbines and maintaining the area in which they are built creates a wide range of job opportunities.
-
Wind power is cost effective, as it is a “low-cost fuel” in many areas of the country.

Cons:
-
The amount of energy produced is dependent on the strength of the wind on a particular day so if there is no wind for an extended period of time, there will be limited electricity. (That is, of course, until transferrable electricity methods are in full effect.)
-
The power of the wind mills could form a potential threat to wildlife like birds and other flying creatures nearby.

Why should it matter to YOU?
As you may not be able to put a full size wind turbine in your backyard, you can still help promote awareness instead. By spreading awareness to friends, family and the public around you, you are increasing the demand for this energy source. This will benefit us all in the long run. Energy companies have started to invest money into projects that create smaller turbines that are manageable for the public. The more awareness the companies have, the faster they will speed up the generation and testing of mid size/small turbines that could be useful to you at home. Every little part matters in producing a cleaner world. Be the difference.
